Jamaica is warm year-round. On the south coast, daytime temperatures sit between 80°F and 90°F around ninety percent of the time, cooling into the 70s in the evening.
Why Treasure Beach is drier than the rest of Jamaica
The Santa Cruz Mountains shelter the south coast from much of the rain that hits the north. Treasure Beach is noticeably warmer and drier than Montego Bay, Ocho Rios or Port Antonio, and sees more reliable sunshine through the year.
There is only about a ten-degree difference between winter and summer here, so there is no genuinely cold season.
Seasons in Jamaica
Jamaica does not have four seasons in the way temperate countries do. In practice there are two:
- Dry season — roughly December to April. The most reliable weather, and the busiest and most expensive time to visit.
- Wet season — roughly May to November. Warmer and more humid, with rain typically arriving as short heavy showers rather than all-day grey. On the south coast this is far less disruptive than on the north.
If people ask when summer is in Jamaica, the honest answer is that it is summer most of the year. The hottest months are July and August.
Hurricane season
Hurricane season officially runs from 1 June to 30 November, with the highest risk typically August through October.
Most years pass without a direct hit, and the south coast is less exposed than the north. That said, if you are booking within that window it is worth having travel insurance that covers weather disruption.
