Jamaica does not really have a summer, because it never stops being one. There is no four-season year here. There is a dry season and a wet season, and the temperature barely moves between them.

When is summer in Jamaica?
By the calendar most North Americans and Europeans use, summer runs June to August, and Jamaicans would recognise the term. But it is not how the year is divided here.
The hottest and most humid months are July and August. The difference between the warmest and coolest months on the south coast is only about ten degrees Fahrenheit, so what feels like summer weather elsewhere is simply the normal year here.
When is winter in Jamaica?
December to February is the coolest and driest stretch. Daytime highs still sit around 27°C / 80°F, with evenings dropping into the seventies. You may want a light layer after dark on a hilltop. You will not want a coat.
This is also peak tourist season, precisely because it is winter everywhere else.
When is fall or autumn in Jamaica?
September to November is the wettest and most humid part of the year, and it overlaps with the busiest stretch of hurricane season. There is no autumn in the sense of leaves turning or temperatures dropping.
The two seasons that actually matter
- Dry season, roughly December to April. The most reliable weather, and the busiest and most expensive time to visit.
- Wet season, roughly May to November. Warmer and more humid, with rain usually arriving as short heavy afternoon showers rather than all-day grey. There are typically two rainfall peaks, one around May and another around October.
Temperatures through the year
On the south coast, daytime temperatures sit between 80°F and 90°F roughly ninety percent of the time, cooling into the 70s in the evening. There is no genuinely cold season.
Why Treasure Beach stays drier than the rest of Jamaica
The Santa Cruz Mountains shelter the south coast from much of the rain that reaches the north. Treasure Beach is noticeably warmer and drier than Montego Bay, Ocho Rios or Port Antonio, and gets more reliable sunshine through the year. It is dry enough that cactus grows wild along the roadsides.
In practice, a rainy week in Ocho Rios is often a couple of brief afternoon showers in Billy’s Bay.
Hurricane season
Hurricane season runs 1 June to 30 November, with the greatest risk from August through October.
Most years pass without a direct hit, and the south coast is less exposed than the north. If you are booking within that window, take travel insurance that covers weather disruption, and buy it when you book rather than later.
