Renting a hotel room per couple gets expensive fast once a family trip involves grandparents, teenagers and a toddler. Renting a whole villa instead puts everyone under one roof, for one price, split however many ways your group needs.
We built Butterfly Hill as a family villa first. This is what actually changes when you go that route instead of booking rooms.
Why a villa works better for families
The math is the first reason: a five-bedroom staffed villa split six or eight ways is often cheaper per person than the equivalent hotel rooms, especially in peak season.
The second reason matters more once you are actually there. Everyone is in one house instead of stacked in separate rooms down a corridor. Kids can be watched by whichever adult is free. Nobody is knocking on a connecting door at 7am.
What a staffed family villa includes
At Butterfly Hill that means a private chef, a housekeeper and a groundskeeper. Meals are built around your schedule rather than a restaurant’s — breakfast whenever the kids wake up, dinner early if that works better with young children.
The pool stays clean without you managing it. Someone local can arrange a boat to Pelican Bar or point you to a safe swimming spot at Billy’s Bay. It is closer to travelling with help than travelling alone.
The real cost, roughly
Butterfly Hill sleeps up to ten across five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and air conditioning. Rates run US$350–1,100 a night depending on season and group size, three-night minimum, and children two and under stay free. Staff gratuity of around 15% of the rental total is separate — we would rather say that upfront than have it be a surprise.
Run that against three or four hotel rooms for the same nights and the villa usually comes out ahead once you are six people or more.
Practical things worth asking, as a parent
Is the pool fenced? Most villas here, including ours, do not have pool fencing — ask directly if that matters for your family, and expect to supervise young children around water yourself.
Is a crib or high chair available? Ask before you book rather than after you arrive. Is there a supermarket nearby? There is not, in any real sense — Treasure Beach has small shops, not a supermarket, so plan the first grocery run for the drive in if you want particular baby food or snacks on hand.
When to come with young kids
Mid-December to April is the most reliable weather — dry, warm, low humidity, and the easiest stretch for outdoor time with small children. Late April, May and late November are quieter and noticeably better value, with only a slightly higher chance of a short afternoon shower.
